Watching the Trends

So my oldest sister and I were talking about this a few years ago, but it popped up in my head, so I thought I'd blog about it.

I'm always fascinated by current trends and WHY they're so trendy. Seems like more and more I'm noticing watches. Now, I haven't worn a watch in years. Why? Hello, clocks are like spiders, they're always within a few feet of you (computers, cell phones, clock radios, TV). I'm a pretty practical girl. If I need to know the time, I usually just look up. So what's up with the fascination of watches?

Well, the symbol of POWER and LUXURY is still going strong! That's exactly why the rich love their watches. A watch is not a necessity. It's a luxury. The only reason you're sportin' a watch nowadays is to show it off, to define yourself, to define your lifestyle. Because really, who needs a watch?

By sportin' a watch, you get to say, hey, I am high fashion, I am glamorous, I am jewelry on my wrist with benefits! Look at me, look at me, look at me! (Oh, by the way, I am still loving the seafoam green;-)

This might just be my favorite because it's absolutely absurd! Made with 879 diamonds, the time shows through them.

I also see a fun side to this. So it's no longer about "time," right? It's about innovation, using time as our medium. Check out where watches are going and have gone...

This is the COOLEST! Seriously. Geoffrey Cooper designed a watch to mimic the solar system.

I can't think of anything more ridiculous to buy than a moon watch, and yet I still enjoy the concept! Not as if you can't walk outside and look up, but STILL, something fun about this.

So really what I'm seeing as the trend here is this. Take something that used to be a necessity, jazz it up, play with it and...Voila!
